Riley Balsom is dedicated to serving the people of the District of Carbonear-Trinity Bay de Verde. As part of this commitment, Riley pledges to uphold the following Top 5 priorities:
- Healthcare Improvements
Healthcare is a critical issue for many residents. I will work to *lobby the provincial government for an MRI system at Carbonear General Hospital to reduce travel times and improve diagnostics for the people in our region. In addition, I will advocate for improved wait times for both urgent and non-urgent medical appointments, ensuring that all residents receive timely and effective healthcare. - Communications Infrastructure:
In our increasingly connected world, reliable cell phone coverage is essential. I will work with both public and private partners to improve cell phone coverage, especially in the underserved areas. Expanding reliable coverage will enhance public safety, provide greater economic opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life for residents. - Road safety and infrastructure
Ensuring our roads are safe is a priority. I propose the installation of reflective strips in roadways to improve visibility, especially during low-light and foggy conditions, for drivers and pedestrians alike. These strips will enhance road safety and reduce the likelihood of accidents, particularly during Newfoundland and Labrador’s busy fishery season and long, dark winter months. - Support for Seniors
Our seniors deserve respect and care. I support improved senior support services that include better home care options, healthcare access, and social programs that reduce isolation. Seniors have given so much to our communities, and we must ensure they can live with dignity and comfort. - Addressing the issue of crime
Addressing the issue of crime is a top priority. With the Trinity-Conception region ranking as the second highest in crime per capita, I will advocate for increased funding from both the provincial and federal governments to support the RCMP. This additional funding will enable enhanced patrols and a stronger presence in the area, helping to curb crime and improve safety for all residents.
These priorities aim to create a thriving, inclusive, and resilient community for all residents of Carbonear-Trinity Bay de Verde.
