Riley Balsom is a proud lifelong resident of Heart’s Content, where his roots run deep and his commitment to community is unwavering. After graduating from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in French, Riley became fluent in both of Canada’s official languages.
During his time as a student, Riley worked at Walmart Canada in Carbonear, one of North America’s largest retailers. His dedication and leadership skills quickly became evident as he advanced through the company, ultimately serving as one of the youngest acting Assistant Managers at a Supercentre in St. John’s, where he led a team of nearly 20 employees—all while commuting daily from his home in Heart’s Content.
Riley’s passion for improving his hometown led him to successfully run for municipal office in 2021, where he currently serves as a Councillor for the Town of Heart’s Content. His dedication to public service extends beyond his community. Riley has been an active member of the Progressive Conservative District Association for Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde since 2014, holding key leadership roles, including Secretary (2014-2019) and President (2019-2024). He has played an integral role in running numerous political campaigns both locally and provincially and is well-versed in the needs and dynamics of one of the province’s largest districts.
Riley Balsom’s deep connection to his hometown, combined with his leadership experience and dedication to public service, positions him as a strong advocate for the people in the district of Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde.
